Allison Richardson

Acoustic Analyst

Allison joined the Davies lab in the spring of 2021 as a baleen whale acoustic analyst. She graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Marine Biology. In the lab, she monitors baleen whale calls in near real-time in the Gulf of St. Lawrence using a passive acoustic monitoring system. Any North Atlantic right whale presence is passed along to Transport Canada where they decrease ship speed in that area to protect the North Atlantic right whales from ship strikes.

Allison grew up on a lake in Nova Scotia, Canada where she grew up loving the water. She was always the last one to leave when swimming in the lake or visiting the beach. When she was younger, she learned about the plight of the North Atlantic right whales and knew she wanted to help and is happy that she currently helping this endangered whale.

In her free time, she enjoys photography, hiking, swimming, going to the beach, and collecting way more plants than she needs.
