Halyna Klymentieva
Lab Technician
Halyna joined the Davies Lab in 2020 as an Honors student. She investigated how the characteristics of Calanus copepods, the primary food source for North Atlantic Right Whales, affect the presence of these whales in the Bay of Fundy and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology in 2022.
Throughout her studies, she participated in various projects, including studying the temperature effects on cadmium bioaccumulation and toxicity in the banded killifish (Aquatic Toxicology, 2023), measuring the intranasal baleen temperature using drones (International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2024), and assessing environmental conditions associated with groups of foraging Right Whales.
Halyna began working as a lab technician in 2022 at St. Andrews Biological Station, where she assisted with plankton imaging for the shellfish aquaculture project (Frontiers in Marine Science, 2024). In 2024, she became a lab technician at the Davies Lab.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, biking, and gardening.
